Geology, hydrology, and water supply of Edwards Air Force Base, Kern County, California

Edwards Air Force Base occupies the northern part of Antelope Valley, California. As a result of large-scale and increasing agricultural pumping in the valley, the net draft has exceeded the perennial supply since about 1930 and was about 170,000 acre-feet in 1951--at least three times the estimated yield. As a result, there has been a continuing depletion of ground water stored in all the unconsolidated deposits, including the principal aquifers contained in the younger and older alluvium.

Geology of the Terra Bella-Lost Hills Area, San Joaquin Valley, California

The Terra Bella-Lost Hills area in the southeastern part of the San Joaquin Valley includes about 1,700 square miles of Kings, Tulare and Kern Counties. This part of the San Joaquin Valley has mild winters, long hot summers, and little precipitating, almost all of which occurs during the fall and winter months. The area is a basin of interior drainage and the streams are tributary to Tulare Lake. The Terra Bella-Lost Hills area is characterized by dissected uplands, low alluvial plains and fans, river-flood plains and channels, and overflow land. and. lake bottoms.
