Abstract

While this technology has proven its use as a mapping tool - effective for generating bare earth DEMs at high resolutions (1-3 m) and with high vertical accuracies (15-18 cm) - obstacles remain for its application as a remote sensing tool: * The high cost of collecting LIDAR * The steep learning curve on research and application of using the entire point cloud * The challenges of discovering whether data exist for regions of interest

Global Fiducials Library

Introduction The Earth changes continuously in response to natural processes and human activity. The collection and interpretation of time-series imagery enhances our ability to observe and monitor Earth’s dynamic processes as well as study and understand the rapidly changing surface of our planet. The Global Fiducials Library (GFL) provides repeated satellite imagery of selected locations around the world to help scientists observe, document, and better understand those changes over time.
