Surface water records of Texas, 1964
The surface-water records for the 1964 water year for gaging stations, partial-record stations, miscellaneous sites, and base-flow studies within the State of Texas are given in this report. For convenience there are also included records for a few pertinent gaging stations in bordering States. The records were collected and computed by the Water Resources Division of the U. S. Geological Survey, under the direction of Trigg Twichell, district chief, Water Resources Division. Through September 30, 1960, the records of discharge and stage of streams and contents and stage of lakes or reservoirs were published in an annual series of U.S. Geological Survey water supply papers, entitled "Surface Water Supply of the United States." Since 1951 there have been 20 volumes in the series; each volume covered an area whose boundaries coincided with those of certain natural drainage areas. The records in Texas were contained in Parts 7 and 8 of that series. Beginning with the 1961 water year, streamflow records and related data have been released by the Geological Survey in annual reports on a State-boundary basis. Distribution of these basic-data reports is limited and primarily for local needs. Records will be published in Geological Survey water-supply papers at 5-year intervals.
Water resources data for Arizona, 1965: Part 1. Surface water records
The surface-water records for the 1965 water year for gaging stations and miscellaneous sites are included in this r e port. Records for a few pertinent gaging stations in bordering States also are included for convenience. The records were collected and computed by the Water Resources Division of the U.S. Geological Survey under the direction of H. M. Babcock, district chief. This report is the continuation of a new method, which was started with the 1961 water year, of presenting, annually, basic data on surface-water records by States. Through September 30, 1960, the records of discharge and stage of streams and contents and stage of lakes or reservoirs were published in the annual series of U.S. Geological Survey water-supply papers entitled "Surface Water Supply of the United States." Since 1951 there have been 20 volumes in the series; each volume covers an area whose boundaries coincide with those of certain natural drainage areas. The records for Arizona are contained in Part 9 of that series. Since 1961, streamflow records and r elated data have been released by the Geological Survey in annual reports on a State-boundary basis. Distribution of these basic-data reports is limited, and they are primarily for local needs.
Topographic mapping: A challenging future
The United States Geological Survey was established by Congress in 1879 to make a systematic study of the geology and natural resources of the United States. To provide the essential base maps for these studies, the Survey immediately began a program of topographic mapping. In 1882 a general plan was adopted for a standard series of general-purpose topographic maps covering the entire country. Today ... the primary job of the Topographic Division of the Geological Survey is to carry out topographic surveys, and to publish the results as quadrangles in the National Topographic Map Series.
Quality of surface waters in Utah, October 1962 to September 1963
This data release is a compilation that presents water-quality data for the period October 1962 to September 1963 for the sites listed on page 2. These preliminary data are subject to revision before final publication in the annual series of U.S. Geological Survey Water-supply papers entitled Quality of surface waters of the United States. Most of the data were obtained as part of the Geological Survey's continuing program for the investigation of the nation's water resources or as part of a cooperative program with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation; some data were obtained as part of cooperative programs with the State Engineer of Utah and with the Soil Conservation Service.
