Selected ground-water data for Yucca Mountain region, southern Nevada and eastern California, through December 1994

The U.S. Geological Survey, in support of the U.S. Department of Energy, Yucca Mountain Site Characterization Project, collects, compiles, and summarizes hydrologic data in the Yucca Mountain region. The data are collected to allow assessments of ground-water resources during studies to determine the potential suitability of Yucca Mountain for storing high-level nuclear waste. Data on ground-water levels at 36 sites, ground-water discharge at 6 sites, and ground-water withdrawals within Crater Flat, Jackass Flats, Mercury Valley, and the Amargosa Desert are presented for calendar year 1994. Data collected prior to 1994 are graphically presented and data collected by other agencies (or as part of other programs) are included to further indicate variations of ground-water levels, discharges, and withdrawals through time. A statistical summary of ground-water levels at seven wells in Jackass Flats is presented. The statistical summary includes the number of measurements, the maximum, minimum, and median water-level altitudes, and the average deviation of measured water-level altitudes for selected baseline periods and for calendar years 1992-94.

Water resources data, Nevada, water year 1987

Water-resources data published herein for the 1987 water year comprise the following records: Water discharge for 86 gaging stations on streams, canals, and drains.; Discharge data for 144 peak-flow stations and miscellaneous sites, and 35 springs.; Stage and contents for 14 lakes and reservoirs.; Water levels for 304 observation wells. .; Water-quality data for 29 stream, canal, and drain sites, and 5 wells.; Precipitation totals for 12 stations. Additional water data, collected at various sites that are not part of the systematic data-collection program, are published as miscellaneous measurements. These data represent that part of the National Water Data System operated by the U.S. Geological Survey and cooperating State and Federal agencies in Nevada.

Data on surface-water quality and quantity, lower Edgewood Creek basin, Douglas County, Nevada, 1984-85

Selected hydrologic data were collected from August 1984 through July 1985 at three sites on the lower part of Edgewood Creek, and at a recently constructed sediment-catchment basin that captures and retains runoff from developed areas in the lower Edgewood Creek drainage. The data were collected to quantify the discharge of selected constituents downstream from recent and planned watershed restoration projects, and to Lake Tahoe. Contained in this report are the results of quantitative analyses of 39 water samples for: total and dissolved ammonium, organic nitrogen, nitrite, nitrate, phosphorus, and orthophosphorus; suspended sediment; total iron, manganese, and zinc; and dissolved temperature, specific conductance, pH, and dissolved oxygen; summary statistics (means and standard deviations), and computations of instantaneous loads. On the basis of mean values, about 80% of the total nitrogen load at each of the three Edgewood Creek sites is in the form of organic nitrogen, 12% is in the form of nitrate nitrogen, 7% is in the form of ammonium nitrogen, and 1% is in the form of nitrite nitrogen. The percentage of total phosphorus load in the form of orthophosphorus at the three stream sites varies somewhat with time, but is generally greater at the two downstream sites than at the upstream site. In addition, the percentage of the total phosphorus load that is present in the dissolved state generally is greater at the two downstream sites than at the upstream site. (Lantz-PTT)

Data on surface-water quality and quantity, Truckee River system, Nevada and California, 1979-81

Selected hydrologic data were collected between May 1979 and October 1981 at 59 sites on the Truckee River, 10 sites on selected tributaries and smaller diversions, and 9 sites on the Truckee Canal. The data were collected in support of the water-quality and hydrologic investigation components of the Truckee-Carson River-Quality Assessment by the U.S. Geological Survey. This report contains data from: (1) diel and antecedent measurements made in conjunction with four synoptic water-quality studies, (2) analyses of phytoplankton samples to supplement other biological data collected during the synoptic studies, (3) an investigation of surface and intragravel water quality to determine the suitability of the river as a spawning habitat for Lahontan cutthroat trout, (4) 10 water-temperature recorders, (5) 11 dye-tracer studies, (6) 5 gas-tracer reaeration studies, (7) summaries of dye-tracer travel times derived from the dye and reaeration studies, and (8) discharge measurements with associated channel-geometry descriptions at 46 miscellaneous sites on the river, selected tributaries, and the canal.
