Estimated oil and gas reserves, Gulf of Mexico outer continental shelf and continental slope, December 31, 1982

Remaining recoverable reserves of oil* and gas in the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf and Continental Slope have been estimated to be about 2.98 billion barrels of oil and 39.8 trillion cubic feet of gas, as of December 31, 1982. These reserves are recoverable from 468 studied fields under the Federal submerged lands off the coasts of Louisiana and Texas. An additional 53 fields, discovered since December 31, 1980, have not been sufficiently developed to permit a reasonably accurate estimate of reserves. Original recoverable reserves are estimated to have been 8.56 billion barrels of oil and 98.1 trillion cubic feet of gas from 484 fields in the same geographic area. Included in this number are 16 fields that are depleted and were abandoned; not included are the 53 insufficiently developed fields. Estimates were made for individual reservoirs in 382 fields and on a field-wide basis for the other 102 fields. *The term 'oil' as used in this report includes crude oil and condensate.

Estimated oil and gas reserves, Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf and Continental Slope, December 31, 1981

Remaining recoverable reserves of oil* and gas in the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf and Continental Slope have been estimated to be about 2.90 billion barrels of oil and 39.8 trillion cubic feet of gas, as of December 31, 1981. These reserves are recoverable from 445 studied fields under the Federal submerged lands off the coasts of Louisiana and Texas. An additional 44 fields, discovered since December 31, 1979, have not been sufficiently developed to permit a reasonably accurate estimate of reserves. Original recoverable reserves are estimated to have been 8.17 billion barrels of oil and 93.4 trillion cubic feet of gas from 461 fields in the same geographic area. Included in this number are 16 fields that are depleted and were abandoned; not included are the 44 insufficiently developed fields. Estimates were made for individual reservoirs in 355 fields and on a field-wide basis for the other 106 fields. * The term "oil" as used in this report includes crude oil and condensate.

Estimated oil and gas reserves, Gulf of Mexico outer continental shelf, January 1, 1979

Remaining recoverable reserves of oil* and as in the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf area have been estimated to be about 2.76 billion barrels of oil and 37.2 trillion cubic feet of gas, as of January 1, 1979. These reserves are recoverable from 370 studied fields under the Federal submerged lands off the coasts of Louisiana and Texas. An additional 31 fields, discovered since September 1, 1977, have not been sufficiently developed to permit a reasonably accurate estimate of reserves. Original recoverable reserves are estimated to have been 7.5 billion barrels of oil and 76 trillion cubic feet of gas from 385 fields in the same geographic area. Included in this number are 15 fields that are depleted and abandoned; not included are the 31 new fields. Estimates were made for individual reservoirs in 289 fields and on a field-wide basis for the other 96 fields. * The term "oil" as used in this report includes crude oil, condensate, and gas-plant liquids.

Estimated oil and gas reserves, Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf, January 1, 1978

Remaining reserves of oil* and gas in the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf area have been estimated as 34.2 trillion cubic feet of gas and 2.7 billion barrels of oil as of January 1, 1978. These reserves are recoverable from 318 fields under the Federal submerged lands off the coasts of Louisiana and Texas. Original recoverable reserves are estimated to have been 69 trillion cubic feet of gas and 7 billion barrels of oil from 334 fields in the same geographic area. Included in this number are 16 fields that are depleted and abandoned. Not included are 35 new fields, discovered since September 1, 1976, that are not sufficiently developed to permit a reasonably accurate estimate of reserves. Estimates were made for individual reservoirs in 210 fields and on a field-wide basis for the other 124 fields. *The term "oil" as used in this report includes crude oil, condensate, and gas-plant liquids.

Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf↗

Estimated oil and gas reserves, Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf, January 1, 1977

As of January 1, 1977, nearly 35 trillion cubic feet of gas and about 2.7 billion barrels of oil* are estimated to be the remaining reserves in 294 fields in the Gulf of Mexico Outer Continental Shelf off Texas and Louisiana. Twenty-seven additional fields, discovered since January 1, 1976, in these Federal waters are not yet sufficiently developed to permit a reasonably accurate estimate of measured reserves. Nearly 66 trillion cubic feet of gas and 6.9 billion barrels of oil are estimated to have been originally recoverable from 306 fields, 12 of which are not considered to have any remaining reserves. Reserve estimates were made on a reservoir-by-reservoir basis for 146 fields and on a field-wide basis for the other 160 fields. The resulting estimates of original and remaining reserves are reported here in terms of geographic area within the Outer Continental Shelf and adjacent slope. *The term "oil" as used in this report includes crude oil, condensate, and gas-plant liquids.
